The Centre for Biodiversity Conservation (CCB) is part in
the Department of Botany at the University of Cagliari. The
CCB was born to study, manage and preserve plant diversity
in Sardinia. The Bank of Sardinian Germoplasm (BG-Sar), the
Index Seminum, the biodiversity rock garden and the experimental
fields are part of CCB.
The Centre's main focus is to preserve the highest number
of sardinian endemic taxa and those of phytogeographical interest,
it also collect species of Mediterranean insular ecosystems
and western Mediterranean. They are stored as seeds or spore,
plants in vase and also in the rock areas for the ex situ
conservation.
CCB also aim of studying from taxonomical, ecological and
biosystematic point of view threatened species and suggests
most suitable strategies for their habitat conservation.
Common research projects and programs of scientific divulgation
are carried out whit other institutions.
In the last years new projects on biodiversity conservation
have set up: two for protection of threatened species in Cagliari's
province and another one for study flora diversity in western
Mediterranean islands. Project are carried out with Cagliari's
local Administration and the Botanical Garden of Valencia.
A protocol agreement have signed with the University of Valencia
for didactic and scientific cooperation for the 2004-2006.
Moreover projects and cooperations are carried out with other
